Welcome to CounterCurrent Affairs!
My name is Nina and I am the creator of this website. I am OSINT investigator and analyst with interest in current affairs, Bulgarian politics, Russia, geopolitics, freedom of speech and disinformation, human rights and justice.
I began using open-source intelligence to research true crime cases in great detail when I was just 13 and as I grew older, my interest shifter towards how power and society interact with each other. My habit of watching the news led me to asking many questions that mainstream media usually fails to answer; therefore, I created a space of my own where I can share the findings of my own research.
Over the years, I have built a multidisciplinary career across finance, business development, civil service, marketing and communications. I have worked in banking, commercial finance, credit analysis, and mortgage advisory, as well as in public service and education. This diverse background shapes my investigative work, particularly in analysing financial systems, institutional behaviour and organisational structures.
While at school in Bulgaria, I was elected to a Youth Parliament and volunteered extensively with the Red Cross, supporting fundraising campaigns and working with children in orphan care. Since moving to the UK, I have been involved in campaigning and contributed to a think tank focused on business and policy in the City of London.
I have experience leading digital campaigns, growing large online audiences and developing communication strategies designed to inform, engage and mobilise. My training spans finance, leadership, social innovation, communication strategy, social psychology, investigative methods and crisis communication.
I am fluent in English and Bulgarian, with working understanding of Russian and German, allowing me to operate across different regional and geopolitical contexts.
My work is guided by a commitment to human rights, freedom of speech, democratic integrity and the fight against corruption and disinformation. I am particularly focused on Eastern Europe, Russian influence, and the evolving global information environment.
Through CounterCurrent Affairs, I aim to produce clear, evidence-based investigations that challenge narratives, expose manipulation and contribute to a more informed public conversation.
