The face of the traditional Bulgarian family

Princess Kalina of Bulgaria was chosen to lead the procession “in defence of the traditional Bulgarian family values” – event opposing Sofia Pride. Kalina – known for crashing her car while driving drunk, was in no condition to walk, let alone lead a procession.

The woman you see stumbling and looking like she is completely out of it is the Bulgarian princess Kalina. She is the daughter of Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha who reigned as the last tsar of Bulgaria as Simeon II from 1943 until 1946. Simeon was also a prime minister of the country between 2001 and 2005 – just enough time to get back the properties belonging to his family before the communists took over.

Kalina was chosen to lead the procession “in defence of the traditional Bulgarian family values”. The procession is organised every year as an opposition to Sofia Pride. The difference this year is that the governing party of Bulgaria came out with a statement in support of the traditional values march. The head of the Orthodox Church – patriarch Daniil (birth name – Atanas Nikolov) was the leader of the whole event. Nikolov said that the church will take over from next year on and will grow the event even further, claiming that “The goal of our initiative is the inclusion of all people”, while simultaneously disregarding the rights of a significant proportion of the Bulgarian population.

Kalina’s name rarely shows up in the news and when it does, it’s usually not for good. Her latest stunts include crashing her car whilst driving drunk and encouraging her dogs to attack a family and their children.

Kitín Muñoz – Kalina’s husband also attended with her – he is the man helping her walk. Behind her were walking the State’s Guardsmen who were commanded to accompany the procession – their brass orchestra provided the music. Another sign which side the government and the presidency are on.

It’s unclear if last night Kalina was drunk, heavily medicated, suffering from illness or drugged. However, the very fact she was chosen as the face of this events, can only mean one thing – the Bulgarian government and the Orthodox Church in the country think that the traditional values of the country are to be unstable on your feet (for reasons unknown), to drive drunk and to weaponise your dog against children.

Meanwhile, Dara – the winner of Eurovision 2026, performed at Sofia Pride and all videos show everyone at the event having a great time. The colourful event has attracted not only people from the LGBT+ community but also many others, who support them and want them to have equal rights with everyone else (which is not the case in Bulgaria).
