A resurfaced tape from a political event exposes yet again where the true loyalties of the Bulgarian prime minster lie. He passionately talks about how the sanctions against Russia must be lifted and how the Bulgaria will always remain close to Russia.
A tape resurfaced on X with a 2 minutes speech from Rumen Radev, now prime minister of Bulgaria and former president of the country. The tape is seems to be from a few years ago – either while he was a president or while he was running to become or remain one.
Radev kept the same rhetoric during his longest parliamentary election campaign appearance in 2026 – when he spoke to the openly pro-Russian Bulgarian journalist Martin Karbovski. The difference lies, however, in the passion with which Radev speaks during the event from years ago – pathos we have never seen him express publicly when it comes to anything related to Bulgaria.
This is what Radev said:
“Under no circumstances, Russia should not be branded an enemy […] The sanctions against Russia must be lifted! Because they are harmful for both the Russian and the European economy. They are not useful for anyone and we will see nothing good from them! We must aim to reestablish trade relations with Russia. […]
The cultural and spiritual connection between our two nations is a capital – for both Bulgaria and Russia. […]
It’s our duty as Bulgarians and people who love their country to pass to the next generations the warmth and humanity in the relationship between our two nations. And let’s say it – the centuries old friendship between the Bulgarian and the Russian nations will outlive every political winter.”
